Day 56 – 13^th April 2011

Drove to Dunsborough but along the way we stopped at Yallingup Food Fired Bread bakery to grab some nice bread. Had a look at Dunsborough and went for a drive along Geographe Bay (coastal road). From here we moved on to Busselton where we decided to make use of our bikes and have a look at the coast line via the ‘Geographe Path Cycling Tail’ (28km), well worth the ride, a good place to get around on your bike. During the ride we went for a swim and walked the length of Busselton Jetty (1.84 km long). Decided to treat ourselves to a night out and visited ‘Coco’s Thai’ – a very popular place – we recommend it.

Found ourselves a quite carpark where we settled in for the night.

Yallingup Caravan Park, WA

Day 55 – 12^th April 2011

Early morning start with a cab at 6.30am to Dunsborough. Started walking the Meelup Walking Trail by 7am and enjoyed a nice sunrise. Along the way to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse we passed by Curtis Bay, Castle Rock, Eagle Bay, Rocky Point and Bunker Bay (good beach to learn to surf). Near Curtis Bay we saw a kanagaroo (yeah!) and a pot of dolphins. From the lighthouse we continued on to Yallingup via the Cape to Cape Trail. Had lunch at Sugarloaf beach, continued on passed Three Bears (famous surfers beach) and then onto Yallingup for a refreshing swim to finish the day. In total we walked 29km which took about 9hrs (rested for about 1hr when we had breaks and a swim at Bunker Bay). Personally we preferred the other Cape to Cape walk (Day 47 - Cape Leeuwin to Hamelin Bay) as that walk was more interesting with changing landscape and also more challenging, but this was still worthwhile.

Day 54 – 11^th April 2011

Yallingup Caravan Park, WA

Went for a walk along Yallingup’s beach and had another look at Smith’s beach before moving onto Dunsborough. We had a look around town and enjoyed a nice chai latte with scones at Tealiscious. Continued on to Meelup Beach and then decided to go back to Yallingup as tomorrow we will be doing another stretch of the Cape to Cape walk from Dunsborough to Yallingup (29km). On the way back we stopped at BushShack Brewery for some different beer tasting. Nele had a Chilli beer and Andrew enjoyed a Dirty Dan's (his head was spinning afterwards as it was a bit stronger than a regular beer). Got organized for tomorrow’s walk and cooked up a nice risotto (with extra for tomorrow night).

Day 53 – 10^th April 2011

Yallingup Caravan Park, WA

Drove to Wilyabrup Cliffs where we saw some guys rock climbing. Great place to go rock climbing – right on the coast. Next visited Sandalford winery on the way to Moses Rock where we had lunch and a swim while we watched some more surfers. Continued on to Wyadup, sure you can guess…yes another surfers beach and finally got to Canal Rocks, where the ocean has created canals along the rocks. A bit windy so not quite the place to bring your Venetian gondola, but a beautiful place worth a visit.

On the way to Yallingup stopped at a lookout with a nice view over Smiths beach but we might explore this one a bit more tomorrow morning. Camped at Yallingup Caravan Park where we enjoyed a bbq which Andrew managed to cook just before it started pouring down.

Day 52 – 9^th April 2011

Gracetown Caravan Park, WA

Visited the Farmers Market in Margaret River (held twice a month) and bought a nice French baguette, tomatoes, apples, homemade lamb sausages (pure meat) and enjoyed a healthy vegetable juice (with lots of ginger).

Drove to Gracetown and visited the lookout (good views of the town and bay), Huzzas Beach where we had lunch and walked to a nearby surfers beach, Huzzawulee to watch the locals catch a few waves. From here we headed back to Gracetown Bay for a swim and then drove onto South Point, yet another surfers beach where we counted at least 50 surfers enjoying the waves. Watched a beautiful sunset before setting up camp at the caravan park. Nele went to watch the Saturday night’s movie under the stars “Conspicuous me”, while Andrew enjoyed his own movie in the van. We can really recommend this caravan park as it has more of a national park campground feel than a typical caravan park feel, yet it has all the facilities you need.
