Day 280 – 23^rd November 2011

BIG4 Trial Bay Eco Tourist Park, South West Rocks, NSW

This morning we went for a walk around Nambucca Heads. We walked along the V-wall, admiring the colourful graffiti, before reaching Shelly Beach. Next we walked up to Captain Cook Lookout and Rotary Lookout offering views over the beaches and town. It was starting to look very grey as rain was forecasted so we hopped into the van and drove to Scotts Head for lunch. After lunch we walked up the headland before driving to Stuarts Point. In between showers we walked to the beach which can only be reached by crossing a footbridge over the river. Back in a dry van we travelled along the Macleay River to South West Rocks, where we went for a drive along the Macleay River before stopping at Point Briner Lookout with views over Horseshoe Bay and Front Beach.

Day 279 – 22^nd November 2011

White Albatross Holiday Centre, Nambucca Heads, NSW

Early morning we drove to Oxley Wild Rivers NP to view the 220m Wolllomombi Falls, 2^nd highest falls in Australia, and Chandler Falls. Afterwards we had breaky before going for a walk to Chester and Chandler River Lookouts to one side and Wollomombi River and more Wollomombi & Chandler Falls Lookouts to the other side (6.8km return – 1.5h). Next we drove to Point Lookout in New England NP, offering great views of the surrounding mountain ranges. We continued on to beautiful Ebor Falls, where we had lunch. Near Dorrigo we had a look at Dangar Falls and visited Dorrigo NP. In the park we enjoyed a nice view at the Skywalk Lookout before doing the Wonga walk past Tristania and Crystal Shower Falls (6.6km circuit – 1.5h). Next we drove through Bellingen, a charming town where they got stuck in the ‘60s, before hitting the coast again at Urunga Heads. We took the coastal road via Hungry Head to Nambucca Heads where we had a look at Lions Lookout before checking in the caravan park.
