Day 163 – 29th July 2011
Wintersun Caravan Park, Alice Springs, NT
After brekky we visited the Alice Springs School of the Air, broadcasting lessons to children over an area of 1.3 million sq km. There was an actual class going on which we could listen into. We were also shown a video informing us on the history and workings of the school - very interesting. Afterwards we dropped the van off at Bridgestone for the wheel alignment. In the mean time we went for a walk along the heritage trail and visited The Residency (the old government house), the Royal Flying Doctors Service Base and the Adelaide House (the first hospital in central Australia designed by the founding flying doctor Reverend John Flynn). We picked up the van and had lunch at a nice Vietnamese Tea House. Afterwards we drove to the Olive Pink Botanic Garden and walked up Annie Myers Hill with views over the dry Todd River, Alice Springs Town and the MacDonnell ranges in the background. We finished the day with a sunset viewing from Anzac Hill.
