Day 315 – 28
th December 2011
Strahan Golf Course, Strahan, TAS
We got up early this morning and drove to Tullah. We intended to walk up Mt Farrel (712m ASL) but the signage on the trail wasn’t very clear so we ended up walking to Lake Herbert instead. On the way back however we took an unofficial shortcut up the hill and found the way to the summit after all. From the top we enjoyed beautiful views over Lake Rosebery and Tullah town, Lake Mackintosh, Lake Herbert and the surrounding ranges including views to Cradle Mt and Barn Bluff (?km return – 3.5h). Next we continued on to Rosebery where we had lunch at Stitt Falls before walking to 104m tall Montezuma Falls, Tasmania’s highest falls (9.6km return – 2h15). Afterwards we drove to Strahan via Zeehan where we had a photo opportunity of the Gaiety Grand (one of the biggest -seating 1,000 spectators- and most modern theatres in the world when it opened in 1898). 14km before Strahan we stopped at the Henty Dunes to go for a walk in these 30m high sand dunes backing Ocean Beach. At Strahan we went out for a lovely dinner at Hamer’s Hotel.
