Chili Beach Campsite, Iron Range National park, QLD

Day 227 – 1st October 2011
Chili Beach Campsite, Iron Range National park, QLD

We left early this morning to be at the Jardine River Ferry when it opened as we had quite a way to drive today. After crossing the river we turned off to have a look at Vrilya Point - another great place to camp if you have the time. We preferred the northern beach over the southern end and also had a stop at the lookout on the cliffs with a beautiful view over Vrilya North. Unfortunately we had to continue on so we drove back to the bypass road and travelled over the many corrugations to the turn off to Iron Range NP. We had enquired to take the Frenchmans track which is a shorter road but were told we might need a winch to cross the Pascoe River. As we don't have a winch and there was no-one to tag along with, we took the longer road in distance but probably not in time. We camped at Chili Beach where at sunset we watched the Metallic Starling Birds do their “dancing” ritual before landing on the nearby island to sleep.
