Day 246 – 20th October 2011
St Lawrence Recreational Reserve, St Lawrence, QLD
This morning we drive into Seaforth to have a look around before continuing our way into Mackay via its many northern beaches: Shoal Point, Bucasia, Eimeo, Dolphin Heads and Harbour Beach. Next we drove to Mackay Marina, where a drive along the breakwater offered a view of the neighbouring port. We finally arrived at Mackay where we did our usual stop at the visitor information centre. There doesn’t seem to be a lot to do and as the weather is still not great we decided to have a quick look at Bluewater Lagoon and the Pioneer River, do our grocery shopping, refuel and head out of town. Guess we have to say we weren’t really impressed with Mackay. South of Mackay we had a short stop at Sarina for a photo opportunity of yet another big thing – the ugly big cane toad. We travelled on to St Lawrence where we camped the night at the local recreational reserve, very well set up for travellers. Nele went for a walk to the nearby wetlands and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset
