Day 287 – 30th November 2011
Mayfield Sports and Recreation Club, Newcastle, NSW
Andrew went for an early morning swim before breakfast. After breaky we drove to Nelson Bay to do the Tomaree Head Summit walk, offering stunning views of Port Stephens and Fingal Spit at the top (2km return – 1h). Back down we had a quick look at Zenith Beach, before going for a drive to Fingal Bay. Next we visited Nelson Lighthouse and continued on to Birubi Beach to view the huge sand dunes of Worimi Conservation Lands. We were ready for some cooling down so went for a swim but as the good waves were very few and much apart we soon drove back to One Mile Beach for lunch and another swim. The remainder of the afternoon we relaxed on the beach till dark clouds moved in with the forecasted rain. We decided to drive to Newcastle - along the way we saw 6 jets landing at the Newcastle airport which was quite spectacular. We went for a walk along Lee Wharf and Queen Warf, where we climbed to the top of the tower offering views over the harbour and city. Next we drove to Nobbys Beach and went for a walk along the breakwater where we saw 2 big ships come into the harbour. Afterwards we had tea and killed some time before going to the Ford dealer. When we got into town we checked with Ford if they could work on the van during their evening shift tonight instead of our appointment tomorrow morning, and we were in luck so we had to drop off the van at 10pm and they finished it by 11.30pm so we can sleep in it. We did some blogging while we were waiting for the van.
