Day 285 – 28
th November 2011
The Ruins Campsite, Booti Booti National Park, NSW
We got up early and drove to Crowdy Head Lighthouse to take in the morning views over the coast. Next we moved on to Harington for breakfast and a walk along the breakwater, before driving to Taree where we had a quick stop at the visitor information centre and a look at the Manning River. We drove back to the coast to visit Old Bar, before heading back inland to Breaknose Lookout in Talawahl Nature Reserve. Next we visited the Hallidays Point coastal towns of Black Head (Back Beach, Nine Mile Beach South), Red Head (Nine Mile Beach North) and Diamond Beach. After lunch we took The Lakes Way to Tuncurry-Forster. At Tuncurry we drove to the Rockpool and walked along the breakwater with views over Cape Hawke Harbour (spotted some dolphins) and Nine Mile Beach. Next we drove to Point Road where some pelicans were waiting patiently for a free feed from the fishermen cleaning their catch of the day. We crossed the bridge into Forster and had a look at Forster Beach and Second Head Lookout. We drove along Memorial Drive offering nice views of Lake Wallis and went for a walk along Forster’s Main Street. Next we stopped at various lookouts along Second Head Reserve, with views down the cliffs and over the huge sand dune at One Mile Beach. The water looked very tempting so we drove down to the beach and Nele went for a swim, having lots of fun catching the waves. Afterwards we visited Cape Hawke Lookout in Booti Booti National Park and drove to Green Point, both offering great views of Lake Wallis, before arriving at The Ruins where we set up camp for the night.
