Day 47 – 4th April 2011
Contos Campground, Leeuwin - Naturaliste National Park, WA
Well we completed the 26.5km hike (8 hrs) which we thoroughly enjoyed with good views along the rocky and sandy coastline. About half of the walk was across soft sand on the beach which tested the thighs out a bit. We saw some fantastic coastline and met some nice people along the way who were on Day 7 (last leg) of the walk (going in the opposite direction). It’s a popular walk where people take their camp gear and supplies where there are places to stock up on water and food along the way. Apparently it is quite common to see Pods of Dolphins on the Journey, however we didn’t see any but the people we spoke to that day had seen large pods 100m of the coast. It seems to be a popular fishing spot along this part of the coast, we met several people fishing who had caught their quota of Herring very quickly, however no luck with whiting.
