Day 195 – 30th August 2011
Upper Davies Creek Campsite, Dinden National Park, QLD
This morning we continued the scenic forest drive with stops at the other camping grounds to have a look at Lake Tinaroo from different angles – tip: bring kayaks or a boat to explore the lake further. In Tinaroo town we pulled over at a lookout to view the dam. Afterwards we travelled on to Mareeba via Tolga to buy some Australian grown peanuts at the Peanut Place. At Mareeba we treated ourselves with a yummy iced coffee for Andrew and hot chocolate for Nele with a chocolate brownie to share at The Coffee Works. Next we drove to Dinden State Forest where we went for a walk to the Emerald Creek Falls (1.9km return – 1h). After lunch we continued on to Davies Creek National Park where a short walk took us to a lookout with nice views of the valley and the Davies Falls (1.8km loop – 45min). Along the creek we watched out for platypus but again no luck. We continued on to Dinden National Park to set up at our campsite and enjoyed the peacefulness.
Tip: there is a self-registration campground at Davies Creek NP but you need to prebook for the individual campsites in Dinden NP. We definitely recommend prebooking as the individual sites in Dinden are pretty good and you wouldn’t want to miss out.
