Wild River Caravan Park, Herberton, QLD
Today was waterfalls day. We set off early on the Nandroya Falls walk (6.5km loop - 1h50). This is a pleasant walk leading to the impressive 50m Nandroya Falls via the 10m high Silver Creek Falls. We were happy to have done the full circuit walk as along the way we saw a cassowary – don’t think a lot of opportunities would arise to see this animal so close. Next we continued along the Palmerston Highway to Crawfords Lookout with a view down to the North Johnstone River far below. As just admiring the view from above is not enough we decided to walk to the North Johnstone Lookout located 140m lower (and not 500m as printed in the park’s brochure) and eventually continue a further 110m down for a close up view of the river (3km return – 1h40). After lunch we walked to Wallicher and Tchupala Falls (2.8km return – 40min). Next we returned to Milaa Milaa via another scenic route passing the Mungalli Falls, the Mungalli Creek Dairy Farm for a cheese and yoghurt tasting and the waterfall circuit to view the Ellinjaa, Zillie and famous Milaa Milaa Falls. We had a quick look at Milaa Milaa town before driving to Herberton via Mt Hypipamee NP where a short walk took us to a lookout over the Hypipamee crater and along the Dinner Falls (1km loop - 30min).
