Barradale Rest Area, WA (345km south of Karratha)

Day 90– 17th May 2011
Barradale Rest Area, WA (345km south of Karratha)

Left the park early morning and stopped at Vlamingh Head Lighthouse and Cape Range for a view of the SS ‘Mildura’ Shipwreck on our way back into Exmouth. Filled up with water and fuel before visiting the Shothole Canyon and Charles Knife Gorge with the Thomas Carter Lookout in the Eastern Part of Cape Range NP. Both drives in these gorges are very nice and well worth a visit – last km to the lookout is quite rough, alternatively you could leave your 2WD car at the picnic area and walk to the lookout. If we had more time we would have loved to do the 8km Badjirrajirra walk leaving from the lookout, but as we still had a bit of distance to travel we had to skip it. Instead we continued our way towards Karratha and camped at the free Barradale Rest Area along the Yannarie River (although there wasn’t a lot of river to see but a huge river bed which fills during the wet season).

Entry station at 8.30am displaying campsite is full
