Day 86 – 13th May 2011
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park, Exmouth, WA

Today we woke up to rainy weather…the cold front has moved in. Andrew braved the drizzling rain and went for a morning run and swim. After breakfast we went for a short walk along the beach and Nele got inspired to go for another snorkel… might as well get wet in the water. Andrew wasn’t sure as he already had his early swim but eventually gave in and decided to come as well. It’s amazing how many fish and beautiful coral you can see just 50m of the beach. Wish we had an underwater camera!
As there is not much to do in Coral Bay on a rainy day and the weather forecast is not predicting any change, we decided to move on to Exmouth. In Exmouth we informed at the tourist info centre if there were any campsites left at Cape Range NP, as we were told that you have to get in early as it’s a very popular place in the peak season. They advised us to check at the DEC (Department of Environment and Conservation) office before going out to the park as there is an entry station attended by park rangers where the sites are allocated. Unfortunately we just missed out as the last spot was taken 1hr earlier. As it’s a first in, first served system they advised us to go early in the morning for our best chance to get a spot tomorrow night. Sometimes cars even line up as early as 6am (entry station is attended as of 8am) so we might do that tomorrow morning as well. Tonight we set up camp at Yardie Homestead Caravan Park, located just out of the park.
