Day 264 – 7th November 2011
Alicia and Bill’s Place, Chandler, QLD
This morning we drove through Kilcoy before taking the scenic route to Esk offering many beautiful views of Lake Somerset along the way. We pulled up at The Spit Picnic Area to have a look at the lake and dam. At Esk we pulled up at the visitor information centre to get more info on the drive into Brisbane. We decided to slightly backtrack and take the scenic route through D’Aguilar National Park via Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo with stops at several lookouts along the way. Wivenhoe Outlook provides scenic views of Lake Wivenhoe, Westridge Outlook offers views over the lake and the Great Dividing Range in the distance, Jollys Lookout gives a view of Samford Valley to Moreton Bay and at Camp Mountain Lookout you see the city. At The Gap you are entering the suburbs of Brisbane but we decided to drive out to Samford to have a look around first as we were told several times it was a nice little town. Afterwards we drove to Alicia and Bill’s place – our camping neighbours at Cape Melville during our Cape York trip - at Chandler, located at the other end of town so we had to drive straight through the city. We had missed peak traffic as it was 5.45pm by the time we got in the city but it was still busy enough and confusing with all the different bridges and motorways. We took a couple of wrong turns before finally getting it right but eventually we drove out the other end of the city and from there on it was easy to find their house. We received a great welcome and it was nice to see them again.
