Day 260 – 3
rd November 2011
Kenilworth Show & Recreation Grounds, Kenilworth, QLD
This morning we drove back to Coolum Beach as we wanted to climb Mt Coolum offering splendid views over the coast, unfortunately the track was closed. Instead we continued travelling along the Sunshine coast with a first stop at Twin Beach where we went for a walk along the beach to the mouth of the Maroochy River with views towards Maroochydore. Next we drove to Maroochydore (Shop & refuel), Alexandra Headland to have a look at the surfers and Mooloolaba where we went for a walk along Point Cartwright Reserve. These are all popular holiday destinations and are very busy busy busy. We were quick to move on and headed for Caloundra where traffic was a bit less hectic. We had lunch here and afterwards a swim at King’s Beach before moving inland. We took the Bruce Highway via Nambour back to Yandina and drove out to Mapleton Forest to the Glorious Point Lookout with great views over the surrounding area. From here we drove to Gheerulla Campground where we wanted to stay the night but we had to turn around (which involved some interesting driving backwards and reversing with quite a bit of manoeuvring on this small road) as the road was washed out and turned into a 4WD track which we couldn’t do.
