Day 167 – 2nd August 2011
Woodland Campsite, West MacDonnell National Park, NT

Andrew wasn’t feeling 100% this morning but after taking some pain killers he felt better so we set off on the Mt Sonder walk after all (16km return – 4.5h). The hike to the 1380m ASL summit gives spectacular views all the way, it’s a wonderful walk. We took it easy with plenty of stops to take photos and still got to the top in 2.5h. At the top we met an English girl who left at 7am and got to the top in 2h. She walked part of the Larapinta Trail and isn’t being picked up till tomorrow so with a lot of time to kill she was already sitting up there for 2h admiring the view. We all don’t get how they timed this walk 6 to 8h return! We had lunch at the top before descending and making a short detour to have a look at Redbank Gorge. The remainder of the afternoon we relaxed at the campsite.
