Island Bend Campsite, Kosciuszko National Park, NSW

This morning we drove into Cooma to do some grocery shopping and visit the information centre to get more info on the Snowy Mountains Region. Next we drove to Mt Gladstone Lookout offering great views back to Cooma and ahead to the mountains. We continued along the scenic drive to Jindabyne with nice views over Lake Jindabyne. Next we drove to Charlotte Pass (1835m) from where we walked to the top of Mt Kozciuszko (2229m) along the Summit Walk and retuned via the Main Range Track (20km loop – 5h). We crossed the Snowy River and went past Seaman’s Hut to Rawson Pass from where it’s only a short climb to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko. Next we walked along the ridge of the Main Range above Club Lake and Lake Albina to Carruthers Peak providing spectacular views to the west. From here we walked down past Blue Lake Lookout to reach the Snowy River again. The walk finished with a steep climb back up to Charlotte Pass. The views of Main Range, Mt Kosciuszko and the lakes along the walk were magnificent and it was great to stand at the summit of Australia’s highest mountain. We stayed the night at Island Bend, a scenic camping spot in the national park.
