Mt Beauty Holiday Centre, Mt Beauty, VIC
After breaky we drove to Perischer Valley to walk the Porcupine Track through snow grass, snow gums and small scrubs to a large group of granite boulders (Porcupine Rocks) providing extensive views of the Main Range and Thredbo Valley (5km return – 1.5h). Next we took the very winding but scenic road through Kosciuszko National Park via Thredbo, a popular ski resort in winter, and with a photo opportunity at Scammell’s Ridge Lookout to Khancoban where we stopped for lunch. Back on the road it didn’t take long before we crossed the NSW-VIC border at the Murray River. We travelled along the Murray Valley Highway to Tallangatta, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. A lookout near Old Tallangatta provided nice views over Lake Hume, which forms a part of the Murray River. Past Tallangatta we took the road to Kiewa and headed south to Mt Beauty where we had a quick look at the town’s main street and pond.
