Day 314 – 27th December 2011
Lake Mackintosh Camping, TAS (6km North of Tullah)
Today we continued exploring the Tarkine Region. After breaky we followed the coastal road south with stops at Sarah Anne Rocks, Couta Rocks and Temma. Next we travelled inland to Kanunnah Bridge where we took the South Arthur Forest Drive to Sumac Lookout offering views over the Arthur River, Lake Chisholm which is a permanently flooded sinkhole and Julius River where we had lunch. Afterwards we drove back to the Western Explorer, dubbed the ‘Road to Nowhere’, taking us into the buttongrass wilderness of the Arthur Pieman Conservation Area and all the way to Corinna, offering scenic views along the way. At Corinna we had a look around this old settlement town (in the gold-rush days it had a population of over 2,500) before crossing the Pieman River on the Fatman vehicle barge. From here we took the road via Reece Dam and Lake Roseberry to our campsite for the night at Lake Mackintosh.
