Day 313 – 26th December 2011
Sundown Point State Reserve, Nelson Bay, TAS

After breaky we drove to historic Highland, the homestead built in 1835 for the chief agent of the Van Diemen’s Land Company, and stopped at HA Lane Memorial Lookout, providing yet another different view of The Nut. Next we continued on to Smithon where we drove up to a lookout with views over Duck Bay. In town we had a look at the Duck River before driving to Marrawah where we had lunch. After lunch we walked along Green Beach to Preminghana (10.5km return – 2h10). Along the walk we enjoyed great views over the coast up to the wind turbines of Woolnorth, a 220sq km cattle and sheep property still a holding of the Van Diemen’s Land Company 2 centuries after it began. Afterwards we drove to Arthur River with a detour to West Point and Bluff hill Point along the way. At Arthur River we visited Gardiner Point, Tasmania’s official “Edge of the World”, the sea here stretches uninterrupted all the way to Argentina. Next we drove to our lovely campsite along the Nelson Bay River.
