Springvale Caravan Park, Katherine, NT

Day 124 – 20th June 2011
Springvale Caravan Park, Katherine, NT

We visited Policeman’s Point Lookout on our way out of town with great views of the Victoria River (the camps book only mentions this as a day area but some people were camping here). We continued along the highway before stopping at Joe Creek Picnic Area in Gregory NP where we did the Nawulbinbin walk along the base of the escarpment  - saw quite a bit of Aboriginal rock art (2km loop – 45min). Next stop was the escarpment walk to the Garrarnawun lookout with great views of the river and surrounding area. We stopped at Victoria Roadhouse to fill up and have lunch - a short stroll takes you over the old river crossing. Late afternoon we arrived at Katherine, where we had a swim in the thermal pools – comfortable temperature and you can just float with the current from one end to the other - before setting up camp at the Springvale Caravan Park.
