Day 258 – 1st November 2011
M.V. Sarawak Campsite, Inskip Peninsula Recreation Area, QLD

This morning we drove to Maryborough, birthplace of Mary Poppins author, where we took a walk through town to view the many historic buildings. Next we continued on to Tin Can Bay with a quick stop in Poona along the wat - we thought we were out of saltwater crocodile territory but there was a warning sign at Poona due to the nearby river estuaries - it's amazing how far down salt water crocs can come. Unfortunately clouds were covering the sky again so at Tin Can Bay we went for a short walk along the foreshore, checked if any of the local dolphins were around but no luck so decided to keep moving in the hope to find better weather at the other end of the bay. At Rainbow Beach we went for a walk in the Cooloola Recreation Area of the Great Sandy National Park to Carlo Sandblow, a massive sand dune where you have splendid views over the coastline with its eroded cliffs exposing coloured sands (600m return – 30min). After lunch we had a look at the beach before driving out to Inskip Point where you can take the ferry to Fraser Island. As the weather had cleared up it seemed like a beautiful afternoon to sit back and relax so we decided to camp here for the night.
