Gilbert River Rest Area, QLD (73km E of Croydon)

Day 188 – 23rd August 2011
Gilbert River Rest Area, QLD (73km E of Croydon)

We started the day with a walk along the Norman River in Karumba, where we – unlike the many fishermen - kept our distance from the shore as we are again in crocodile country. Next we drove back to Normanton and did the historic walk around town. After lunch we visited the railway station – home of the Gulflander train and followed its tracks to Croydon. Croydon has an old heritage precinct that seems pretty interesting but we decided to leave this for next time. So after a quick look at Lake Belmore we continued on to our campsite near the Gilbert River.
