Newell Beach Caravan Park, Newell, QLD

Day 205 – 9th September 2011
Newell Beach Caravan Park, Newell, QLD

After breakfast we continued further north along the Captain Cook Highway, which hugs the coastline at this point providing a beautiful coastal drive. We had a look at Ellis Beach and Oaks Beach, more beautiful palm-fringed beaches. Next we stopped at Rex Lookout with splendid views over Wangetti Beach and the Macalister Range beyond. We travelled on to Port Douglas where we first had lunch at Four Mile Beach and afterwards visited the town centre with a stop at Flagstaff Hill offering views over 4 mile beach, a look at the pretty St Mary’s by the sea church and a stroll along the main street and the marina. Next we moved on to Mossman Gorge where a walking track loops along the river filled with boulders and sparkling water washing over these ancient rocks (3.4km loop – 1.5h). Afterwards we drove to Newell Beach Caravan Park where we enjoyed a free sausage sizzle for tea.
