Cairns Holiday Park, Carins, QLD

Day 203 – 7th September 2011
Cairns Holiday Park, Carins, QLD

Today we visited Kuranda, a little artsy village up in the hills behind Cairns. We caught the scenic railway up and came back by skyrail. The train goes over multiple bridges and through 15 tunnels, passes the Stoney Creek Falls and spectacular views can be seen of the Coral Sea, Cairns and Barron Gorge along the way. In Kuranda we had a nice chai latte and Danish at a local café, browsed the heritage and new Kuranda markets, watched the bees make honey and did some honey tasting, enjoyed a relaxing lunch and finished off with a coffee at Kuranda Coffee Republic before taking the skyrail back. There are 2 stops on the way down. At the first one there is a lookout over Barron Falls and at the second one there is a boardwalk through the rainforest (at certain times you can do a free guided walk). At the end station of the skyrail a bus took us back to Cairns railway station. It was a relaxing day and we were glad the weather was nice providing clear views of the scenery on the train and skyrail.
