Coral Coast Tourist Park, Townsville, QLD

Day 240 – 14th October 2011
Coral Coast Tourist Park, Townsville, QLD

This morning we drove to the rock slides for a morning swim. With the water level being a bit low we couldn’t do a lot of sliding but you could see how much fun it must be with a bit more water. Afterwards we took the narrow Mt Spec Road, built by relief labour during the 1930s Depression, weaving its way up the mountains to the village of Paluma. At Paluma we had a look at Mc Clelland’s Lookout and walked to Witts Lookout, offering nice views towards the coast, and Cloudy Creek Falls (6km return – 2h). After a quick drive through Paluma we headed back down with a stop for lunch and a dip at Little Crystal Creek where a pretty stone bridge, built in 1932, arches across the creek. Next we continued on to Townsville where we first dropped into the visitors information centre before going for a stroll along The Esplanade past the marina, the kids’ water playground and the rockpool. We finished the day with a drive to the top of Castle Hill offering great views over Townsville CBD and surrounding area.
