Kalpowar Crossing Campsite, Lakefield National Park, QLD

Day 217 – 21st September 2011
Kalpowar Crossing Campsite, Lakefield National Park, QLD

After breakfast we transferred our stuff in the rented 4WD Toyota Landcruiser Campervan and after some tips about what to see and do along the way to the tip from the Daintree Wild Zoo owners we were off. First stop was at Lyons Lookout, offering a view over the coast, on the road between Mossman and Mt Molloy. Next we travelled through Mt Carbine where the hotel assumingly has the largest playable didgeridoo on its roof, but we couldn't see it. We stopped at Bob's and James Earl Lookout, both offering nice views over the scenic landscape. At Lakeland we turned into the New Development Road (NDR). Before entering Laura we visited Split Rock where a short walk led to an Aboriginal Art Gallery. At Laura we had a quick look at the old lock-up before continuing on to Lakefield NP. Upon entering the NP we stopped at the Old Laura Homestead. Next we drove to Kalpowar Crossing campsite where we set up camp for the night. Although there are often crocodiles seen at the crossing and there was a sign of a recent sighting, we didn't spot any.
